Eucontamination and the Power of Queer Joy | Monday Invocation

“When we worship and find God, when we take joy in our Creator, that breaks a model [of normativity].”

Today, we are engaging with a breakout session recording titled, Eucontamination and the Power of Queer Joy.

This session delves into the oppressive dynamics of cis-heteronormative teachings that cultivate shame around queerness. By examining the psychological and theological mechanisms that underpin these norms, we reveal how the world and a queerphobic church perpetuate the harmful belief that queerness is inherently shameful. Queer joy defies the narratives of abjection and shame imposed on queer individuals, offering a powerful counter-narrative that reframes toxic social pressures. Through this reframing, we aim to provide pathways for processing shame in order to move through grief into a state of joyful resistance.
